Fannie and Freddie will foreclose on your property - unless they can get someone else to do it

Coincidence that it's 30 years to the day from the first underwriting of a CRA (Community Reinvestment Act) mortgage in 1978?
It's the foreclosure process necessary to recover the collatoral that the Democrat CEO's and managers at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac seek to avoid.

At the end of the day we still have underfunded FDIC. Like other unfunded liabilities that Representative Bachmann and other republicans are fixing, this also needs to be fixed. Paying $700 B for the absolute worse securities every investment banker has ever purchased in th last 30 years is not the solution.

At the end of the day we still have two quasi private public sector entities (GSE), Fannie and Freddie, each with a mission to serve poor people that was ill conceived. Some mortgages they create are the basis for sub-prime securities that are apparently desirable for most of their 30 year lives, but which become worthless at the end of 30 years before foreclosure. We should continue seizing each subprime-laden bank as it fails, giving custody of the bad mortgages bundled into the bad securities to small mortgage companies along with modest compensation,
liquidating the failed company according to standard bankruptcy procedure, and reimbursing the depositors through the federal FDIC or private insurance. We should worry about the solvency of the FDIC. But the last thing we should do is trust the implementation of a $700B fix to Hank Paulson, a former member of an an industry that is so honor-less they participated in the passing along of what they now say are bad securities for 30 years at inflated prices. Now they want to sell the same hot potatoes to US at an inflated price. The total cost of managing the CRA mortgages cannot be anywhere near ONE Billion dollars. But it will be much more if we allow Hank Paulson to deal with it.

Irony - Obama advisor and Former Fannie Mae CEO Frank Raines questions FHEO competence

Irony - Obama advisor and Former Fannie Mae CEO Frank Raines questions the Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity's (FHEO of HUD) competence.

video

From 2004:
Obama advisor and former Fannie Mae CEO Frank Raines, US Democrat Representative from MA Barney Frank, US Democrat Representative from CA Maxine Waters and others question Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity's (FHEO of HUD) competence and oversight responsibility; defend cover-up of potential fraud; maintain Fannie and Freddie's solvency; refuse to cooperate with FHEO; and describe "lynching" of Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac at hands of FHEO.

We are now paying for the mismanagement and incompetence of Franklin Raines, the misguided 1977 CRA - Community Reinvestment Act - amended 1989, 1995 and 2005, and the indefensible GSE cover-up of US Representative Barney Frank and others.

Democrats Cut Loose America's Ghettos after Failed Social Engineering Effort

Democrats Cut Loose America's Ghettos after Failed Social Engineering Effort.
Then try to blame Republicans!

"Reid told Paulson he would not pull any of his colleagues out of the meeting. A Reid spokesman, Jim Manley, said: "If the secretary doesn't like it, that's just too bad, because he is going to need the help of each and every one of them to sell the president's plan to the Democratic caucus and the American people.""

Say WHAT?
We need the Democrats to sell us on a bailout of their own failed program like we need a hole in our head.

Dismantle or bring transparency to Fannie & Freddie.
Do not put the Treasury Secretary in a position to compete in the private sector to maintain the FRE FNM stock price.

The Democrats are thinking this:
Perhaps the only advantage the government might have in holding bad mortgages in the private sector arena is very weak. The federal government MIGHT (but won't) seize and liquidate failed properties in a manner slightly more expeditious than private banks but every bit as unpopular publicly. The reason they don't value these securities is because the publicity of un-bundling the mortgage back into a single mortgage so you can foreclose, is undesirable for whatever group is associated with it. Up to now, only the Democrats are associated with it. Support the bailout, and Republicans too are associated with it. Dems are running an effective PR campaign to persuade elderly people such as those overheard recently at Old Country Buffet in the Highland neighborhood of St. Paul MN, that Republican greed is accountable for Wall St. troubles and specifically, Fannie and Freddie. This cannot stand.

Reid, Frank Pelosi and the other jackasses who support this bailout are THIEVES.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/28/AR2008092800064_3.html

DISMANTLE FANNIE MAE!
DISMANTLE FREDDIE MAC!
LIQUIDATE the failing firms fast to protect the FDIC or Treasury Secretary from the moral hazard of accepting the role of a private sector or GSE CEO.
Secretary Paulson DOUBLED Fannie and Freddie's stock price just like a CEO, in just 16 days (Sept 8 - 24).
Paulson is using bureaucratic power to request $700B from congress http://deltondigest.blogspot.com/2008/09/fannie-mae-freddie-mac-refute-your.html.

We should Continue to seize failing banks, extract subprime mortgages, and transfer them, by the power of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, to carefully selected small mortgage firms not involved in subprimes, along with adequate compensation.
Then we liquidate the failed bank, reimbursing depositors up to $100k and large depositors and creditors under normal bankruptcy procedure.
Under no circumstances should Freddie or Fannie or ANY failed bank, once targeted for seizure by the government, be allowed to continue to do business.

Punish the Democrats, and their CEO cronies.
Did you see this?
http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives2/2008/09/021622.php

UPDATE

Ask a Democrat - why are they foresaking America's poor? Why don't they want to manage poor people's risk anymore? The answer is precisely because it is now for the first time unprofitable for investment bankers to manage that risk!
Fire Hank Paulson!
Dismantle the failed Democratic formerly righteous "Holy Grails" Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae!
And never again support Freddie & Fannie's self-serving GSE half-public sector half private sector corporate mission statements (see previous post).

UPDATE #2:
http://forums.e-democracy.org/r/post/NvdQ2LHLjGw1JlEAzCxJm

It's all well and good to research and consult. But partisans like Ms. Cooper are already blaming Republicans and it's just not the case.
This crisis is 96% the Democrats' fault, 3% bureaucracy, and maybe 1% Republican, because of a few campaign contributions and Hank Paulson.
After Republicans approve a bailout the ratio will change and this syndrome will only deepen.
House Republicans should hold firm.
http://deltondigest.blogspot.com/2008/09/democrats-cut-loose-americas-ghettos.html
You see a specific chart in the video on the crisis where the profitability of holding subprimes has recently fallen and only at that point do Democrats realize what their foolish choices and notions have wrought (Democrats' resistance to transparency at Fannie & Freddie being just the most recent example).
Blocks of vacant houses and abandoned cul-de-sacs in Minnesota will represent to every American the broken promise of Freddie and Fannie's mission statements and Democrats' fickle loyalty to the poor whose risk they now suddenly refuse to manage because there's no money in it because they may not get their expected bailout.
Disgusting.

Al Franken, A Complete Joke

http://www.alfranken.com/content/video_detail/?id=71

This is Al Franken's new US Senate campaign ad.

Hey, State Rep Mindy Greiling, Pres. St. Paul Federation of Teachers Mary Catherine Ricker, and State Rep Alice Hausman, Are you CRAZY?

Not only did Al Franken joke about rape, but his campaign re-introduces the topic to America's living rooms in this ad.

What is so funny about rape, Al Franken?

Fannie Mae Freddie Mac: Refute your mission statements! Liquidate

http://forums.e-democracy.org/groups/mn-politics/messages/topic/41x4SKb03I4MQ5rfcXC0V4
I agree with Mike Fratto, let them fail:
"As much as I know that something needs to be done, I find it incredible we are
talking about putting money into publicly traded corporations that are facing
failure because of their greed. Its not like the Chrysler bailout, these banks
don't have any hard assets. Their assets are the paper these now unrecognizable
mortgages are written on."

Upon failure, before governement take-over Sept 8, Fannie Mae should have refuted it's mission statement:
"Fannie Mae is a New York Stock Exchange Company. It operates pursuant to a federal charter. Fannie Mae has pledged through its American Dream Commitment to expand access to homeownership for millions of first-time home buyers; help raise the minority homeownership rate to 55 percent; make homeownership and rental housing a success for millions of families at risk of losing their homes; and expand the supply of affordable housing where it is needed most. "
http://www.fanniemae.com/newsreleases/2005/3523.jhtml

The refutation of the mission statement should be the first step in a govermnment seizure of an intact for-profit (either private sector or GSE).

Sept 8 these stocks were less than half the value they are Sept 24
http://www.marketwatch.com/Quotes/quotes.aspx?symb=fre,fnm
Look at the 1 month chart:
http://www.marketwatch.com/tools/quotes/intchart.asp?symb=FRE&time=4&freq=1
Paulson took over Sept 8 and it dropped. It should continue dropping until Paulson liquidates it.
Instead the value is rebounding.

Paulson should not have been given a mandate to preserve and enhance value of FRE FNM stock. He should have been given mandate to liquidate FRE FNM and render it's interests dispersed as happens to other failed companies. Of course it is difficult to "un-bundle" the mortgages. But that's what we should expect.
Instead, with Paulson's $700B request from congress, he has become just like any other CEO trying to preserve the stock value of FRE FNM using any means at his disposal. Because he is a government bureaucrat, that includes asking taxpayers help at a congressional hearing. Alter his mandate on FRE FNM. Tell him to liquidate it. Then move on to AIG. Let's separate Paulson's efforts on AIG and FRE/FNM. Perhaps we may want to preserve AIG but not FRE/FNM.

Al Franken (in his item 2 taxpayer "stake") is all ready to have government bureaucrats like Sectretary of the Treasury Paulson play investment banker CEO for the companies taken over, but that is not his role. To be a CEO of 2 or more preserved companies (AIG, Freddie Mac (FRE), Fannie Mae (FNM)) is a conflict of interest. Giving Paulson the mandate to "unbundle" mortgages as needed and liquidate each company the government seizes eliminates the conflict of interst and the problem of an active bureaucrat fulfilling a private sector/GSE mission statement.

Freddie and Fannie CEO's appear to have tried to bring subprime property under governemnt control. It's clear from the redlining policy, to the resistance of transparency (despite Jim Rittenhouse's spin), to the irresponsible buy-up of all subprime mortgages, that they anticipated the Sept 8 government take-over of FNM FRE.

We need to challenge their assumptions.
The government seizure was to protect taxpayers not to perpetuate or continue Fannie and Freddie's mission statement.

We deserve an explanation as to why the government may want to retain interest in FRE/FNM subprime mortgages indefinitely, and why it is interested in increasing the FRE/FNM stock price. Their interest should be recovering the mortgages for homeowners and separating the
mortgages from all FRE/FNM financial instruments.
Republicans feel the government role is to preserve liberty, curtail spending, and little else. Democrats feel government is needed to enforce the existence of classic virtues such as charity, through regulation and policy. Well this is not an opportunity for the latter. The coming days are a critical threat to the former.

Al Franken not ready to lead

Al Franken not ready to lead

Al Franken made a livelihood by writing pornographic material for Playboy, and in a book to malign Asians and Republicans.
7 years later in the middle of a political bid, he describes the pornography as satire (of what?). Regardless, the material itself remains pornography.
The reason Al Franken was able to attract people to his night club acts where more indecent material was presented was in part the porno he wrote.
Yet Al Franken claims women support him and has a separate section on his website for women. Apparently women are not full partners in Democrat candidate Al Franken's world-view.
Al Franken has said he is proud of his career.

See my argument with Shannon Drury, head of the MN chapter of NOW, who endorsed Franken and tried to defend her decision, here:
http://forums.e-democracy.org/groups/mn-politics/messages/topic/70KhhBKEijhLjxq37tbues
Shannon admits, in regard to the Playboy article, "This whole flap does make us look like a bunch of idiots."
Search the forum for Franken or Jamie Delton for my other posts in the forum.

Al Franken admits to cocaine use at the workplace here and elsewhere in a book he (Al Franken) wrote:
http://www.looktruenorth.com/elections/2008-us-senate-race/123-2008-us-senate/4828-all-coked-up-and-nowhere-to-go.html

What have the members of our potential next senator's profession accomplished? Not much!
The members of the pornography profession range from a fallen brick and mortar porn mogul defended by 1st amendment activists to a lowly, weak-willed, unprincipled entrepreneur.
Ferris Alexander, quite the Horatio Alger story!
http://everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1823180
Mr. Lumadue, getting his own wife arrested for helping him make an immoral illegal smut video with a 5 year old.
http://www.local6.com/news/17509898/detail.html

I am not disputing the 1st amendment right to choose pornography as a profession if indecent illegal material is not used. My point is Al Franken did choose pornography as a profession, and he is proud of it.
Porno degrades society. A porno profession exploits women.
Al Franken cannot win a senate seat in Minnesota.

Update Sept 21 2008
Thank you to Scott Johnson at Powerlineblog.com for finding and retaining the grimey facts on Al Franken so the rest of us don't have to. The book I refer to above is the oral history of Saturday Night Live .
"According to In the oral history of Saturday Night Live assembled by James Miller and Tom Shales, Franken talks (pages 119-120) about using cocaine while pulling all nighters writing for the show: "I only did cocaine to stay awake to make sure nobody else did too much cocaine. That was the only reason I ever did it. Heh heh." "

Total Pandemonium at McCain Palin rally - and we loved it

There was total pandemonium at the McCain Palin rally at the Anoka County airport in Blaine - and we loved it!
Republicans can have fun, too.
I was stationed at the command and control table of the water-cooler team. Before long the table was overwhelmed and surrounded by Republicans eager to hear presidential candidates John McCain the long-time maverick senator, and Sarah Palin the Alaskan governor who bravely reformed an important committee board despite members of her own party feeling otherwise.

Update
There is
Good chaos, consisting of 13,000-14,000 people crushing each other trying to get a better view of McCain and Palin:
http://www.residualforces.com/2008/09/19/13000-plus-for-mccain-palin-in-blaine-2-photos/
and there is Bad chaos, consisting of anarchists who hide their identity so they can destroy property:

Elect senators and representatives who will repeal bail outs, maintain budget integrity, and not take on more unfunded liability

Elect senators and representatives who will repeal bail outs, maintain budget integrity, and not take on unfunded liability

As if we need more reason to despise failed AIG,
we find out they refused a private sector bailout in favor of an undoubtedly more generous (or ill-informed , depending on how you look at it) public bailout.
http://www.cnbc.com/id/26749393

So what was the conversation at AIG? Perhaps this:
We have acquired for our clients and shareholders bad debt. We can sell out to Allianz and go away or we can convince dumb politicians we need to appear to win so as to avoid a world wide market crash, and stay in the game. We're basically seeking a sky-is-falling response from the government. (see Jason Lewis caller 9/19/08).
If we succeed, we can stay solvent, make off with millions, and maintain our industry respect without disruption, at the expense of tax-payers.

at Allianz:
This is where, in the capitalist process, you (AIG) submit to our low-ball bid and disperse your assets.

at the US Government:
OMG! Don't disrupt your shareholders lives, which include our taxpayers and foreign allies (the Chinese owned stakes in Fannie or Freddie), by failing. Just say how much you need.

Aaarrrghhh!!

Update - just like I always said - redlining created the subprime portfolios which is the cause of today's crisis.

What possible explanation can a sitting councilman offer for this abuse of a constituent?

For over a year Dave Thune clearly sided with violent anarchists and not with a peaceful protest process. He never once advised any protester to obey boundaries, permits, and procedure and not to be violent.
All this support of violence at the expense of his own constituents. He re-opened a violent group's anti-RNC HQ in a residential neighborhood supported by despicable oafs from the Lawyers Guild.

A Message from Priscilla

Just received this note from Priscilla Lord Faris on Facebook.com:

VOTE Sept 9th! TOMORROW!

Dear Friends,

I am asking for your help today. If you agree with what I have to say in this e-mail, please forward to as many people as you can, ask them to forward to their friends, and be sure to vote on Tuesday in the DFL primary.

I have traveled the state and met with thousands of Minnesotans who are delighted to have a choice in the U.S. Senate race. They know our economy is in dire straits and are rightly concerned about their economic security. Job losses, foreclosures, bank failures, the war, energy policy, education and health care lead the list of problems we face.

Our citizens want to change direction away from Coleman-Bush but are very troubled by Mr. Franken including:

-Lack of any relevant experience to be effective

-Moving back to Mn. after 36 years just to run
-83% of his funds come from outside Mn.
-Problems with his own business and tax affairs
-Long history of demeaning others
-Ridicule of catholic religious practices
-Angry and offensive public behavior

I offer a different choice. My life's experiences have prepared me for this job at this time because I have shared the concerns and struggles of Minnesota families in many ways:

o Helped families save their homes from foreclosure
o Worked with seniors on Medicare and Social Security benefits
o Fought against big pharmaceutical companies when their drugs injured innocent people
o Advocated for women’s issues
o Owned a business for 24 years and paid my taxes and worker’s compensation payments
o Been a member of the National Association of Women Business Owners
o Trained in diplomacy techniques of negotiation and mediation
o Worked with Senator Hubert H. Humphrey in Washington, D.C.
o Helped students work out their student loan debt
o Helped people work out their tax issues with the IRS
o Negotiated with health insurance companies for denied benefits
o Teacher of third grade and special education
o Graduated from Law School in 1980 and started my own practice in 1993
o Elected to my City Council in Dakota County
o Helped to write and pass new legislation for MADD to make our roads safer
o Represented injured persons and those discriminated against in the workplace

My work with Senator Hubert H. Humphrey taught me how to reach across the aisle and get things done. I promise to continue the legacy of leadership of those respected Minnesota Senators who were elected before me and to bring dignity, integrity and respect for others to the job.

Please vote for me on Tuesday September 9th on the DFL ticket. I promise to work hard on your behalf and make you proud you elected me as your U.S. Senator.

Excerpt from Sarah Palin Sept 3 2008 RNC Acceptance Speech

video

What I missed in creating this video was the delegates pointing to the media section which prompted the tremendous boo'ing. I later turn around to capture the stunned responses from those in the AP section (the Associated Press, a big news media organization), which you can see about 4/5 the way into this video. The McCain campaign had just announced it was "done with" the "faux scandal" manufactured by big media based on rumors about Palin's family.

According to Nielsen Media Research ratings, http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/09/04/palin-speech-garners-37-million-viewers/, the righteous, well-earned rebuke was watched by more than 37 million TV viewers. Who knows how many internet users observed it!
