American Standing Declines; Crisis of Confidence in Britain

American Standing Declines; Crisis of Confidence in Britain; Global Government Expansion advances unchecked

Luiz Inacio Lula de Silva of Brazil is the sort of person some Americans are trusting to abolish the global standard dollar based currency and establish a global currency. It is all part of the global philosophy of big government Bachmann, Ryan in WI and others are warning against.

Crisis of Confidence

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1165089/White-blue-eyed-bankers-brought-world-economy-knees-What-Brazilian-President-told-Gordon-Brown.html?ITO=1490

The Prime Minister’s focus on trade came after he appeared to retreat from the idea of another big debt-funded Budget giveaway following Bank of England Governor Mervyn King’s unprecedented warning that Britain could not afford one.
Doubts have also been cast over whether the UK's public finances could stretch to a further fiscal stimulus, if one was required.
Yesterday the Tories moved to exploit the apparent breakdown in relations between Downing Street, the Treasury and the Bank of England.

Shadow Chancellor George Osborne claimed there was now a serious 'crisis' of confidence' at the heart of the Government following Mervyn King's warning that debt was so high there is no room for further tax cuts and spending rises.
He seized on Alistair Darling's refusal to fully back the Bank of England Governor when challenged by a Tory MP in the Commons. Mr Osborne said: 'A dire situation for the Government just got worse.
'When a Chancellor pointedly refuses in Parliament to express confidence in the Governor of the Bank of England, or agree with the statements he makes on the Budget, then we have reached a crisis of confidence in the Government's economic policy and its ability to lead us into a recovery.'
To drive the message home the Tories also released a two-page dossier on the rift, showing that it proved Mr Brown's policies had failed.
Tory Party Chairman Eric Pickles said the intervention from Lord Malloch Brown challenged the Mr Brown's leadership and his stewardship of the economy. 'This Government and its economic policies are falling apart by the minute,' he said.
Brazil is the third leg of Mr Brown's whistle-stop tour, which started with a speech to the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Tuesday before moving on to New York.
However, his efforts to lay the groundwork for the summit have been beset by signs of tension between the US and Europe over how to tackle the downturn.
Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek - current holder of the EU presidency - has branded US President Barack Obama's fiscal stimulus package and financial bail-out 'the way to hell'.

The G20 Summit is coming. We will play the role of village idiot for the first time, just as world trade is declining for the first time in 30 years. We will have no ability to stop the big government ideas. The Summit will be led by the likes of Brazil's de Silva.

The Ruud Awakening: Carrie Ruud for Minnesota GOP State Chair
Carrie Ruud for State Republican Chair

Dear Fellow Republicans,

I’m Carrie Ruud, former Senator from District 4. I am running for State Chair of our Republican Party of Minnesota. As a former State Senator I understand what it takes to win an election and how easy it is to lose when voters become apathetic about our message and when our methods are out of date.

My husband and I are small business owners. We take pride in the fact that our independent real estate company is celebrating 21 years in business. We have worked hard in our community to build success. I began my political journey as Mayor of Breezy Point, MN.

Our main goal should be to empower our local BPOU’s and our Congressional Districts to be the best that they can be. They need to have the most up to date technology, voter’s lists, and most of all support, but not interference from the state party.

Our job is to create excitement about who we are, not to redefine or reinvent ourselves. We are conservatives who believe in Life, Liberty, Freedom and the Pursuit of Happiness. Our task of fund raising will become easier when people again believe in our Republican Party and the Conservative Principles it stands for.

As Leader of our Republican Party I will be committed to developing good lines communications with all of our elected officials, our local BPOU’s, Congressional Districts and our entire grass roots conservative base. I am totally committed to electing conservative candidates and making Minnesota a RED STATE.

The Republican Party in the State of Minnesota has an enormous challenge in 2010. I believe in my heart of hearts we can turn this state around, Do you? Please Join Me!

Thank you,

Carrie Ruud

Re-Elect Dorothy Fleming -- MN GOP Deputy Chair
On Saturday, June 13th, 2009... the delegates WILL have a voice. They will choose who will represent the MN GOP in the role of Deputy Chair.

_____________________________________________________

For those of you who have not yet met her, Dorothy Fleming is a good woman to get to know. She's definitely not a "good 'ol boy"... but boy, can she fire people up!

The same crop of folks have been involved in the leadership of the Republican Party of Minnesota for far too long. Again and again, we have seen faithful, enthusiastic party members, activists, and even candidates get shoved aside, ignored and even treated like the enemy in some cases.

The Republican Party of Minnesota needs a new image. It's time to help throw out the old bath water, so to speak. Isn't the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"? Well, the Republican Party here in Minnesota IS broken. And on June 13th, we FINALLY have a real chance to fix it!

We cannot afford to make excuses like, "Well, it just wasn't the year to elect Republicans." We cannot afford to have party leadership handpicking candidates because someone is owed a favor or because it's "their turn now". We cannot be known as the party that does little more than browbeat our DFL counterparts with press releases and media stunts. It's time to create a positive brand for the MN GOP.

We need someone who is ready to fight for the Joe the Plumbers of the world... or better yet, within the GOP in Minnesota! We HAVE such a person.... her name is Dorothy Fleming, the current Deputy Chair of the Republican Party of Minnesota.

Had Ron Carey and his staff had their ways, Dorothy would have been locked in a closet somewhere... but instead, she was out inspiring people, teaching people about what our party platform REALLY stands for and why it is so important, and she did it not because she was working to "get ahead" so to speak... but because she deeply, irrevocably believes in the ideals set forth within our platform and because when we use our ideas without compromise, WE CAN WIN.

The GOP already has it's attack dogs. Deputy Dot, as she is belovedly known by many, is the official cheerleader of the Minnesota GOP. She knows what it takes to not only fire people up, but to inspire them to become better party members, more active members within the conservative movement.

It's time to truly elect a fresh slate of LEADERS, not bulldogs. It's time for the GOP here in MN to be known as the party that inspires people to live and succeed on their own merits. It is time for a true revolution!

Together, let's put Dorothy back at 525 Park Street . Her vision, energy, and commitment to this party are

what we need to grow the party and to win elections.... that's a winning combination!

______________________________________________________

Please take a moment and invite all of your friends to support Dorothy, too!

LGF, Ron Paul and Lew Rockwell - or, Why I support the MNGOP

http://littlegreenfootballs.com/article/33154_Video-_Napolitano_with_Alex_Jones_Ron_Paul_Lew_Rockwell_Etc
http://littlegreenfootballs.com/article/33159_When_Lew_Rockwell_Attacks
ADL and SPLC
http://www.adl.org/
http://www.splcenter.org/
are nothing like LGF. LGF is Win-the-War anti-terrorist with a Global vision which actually involves the Middle East as a full partner not a yellow-tape potential parking lot in which people are temporarily squatting. Indeed George Soros who helped rebuild former Soviet nations, was against Bush's nation building in the Middle East. You first have to believe we are in a war and that there is popular support for us there. Granted this all has changed now that America is a major debtor nation for the first time in history and must now accept a position in the world below global currency interests thanks to Hank Paulson, Bernanke, Pelosi, Frank, Schumer, Reid the 2008 media (main stream - MSM) and Obama.
http://www.bradenton.com/world/story/1317528.html
Wisdom in Obama could have averted or curtailed this. Ironically the Dems were the ones complaining about our standing in the world and losing respect in the world community under Bush.

Categorizing by race is a practice not useful to individual policy makers. It is practiced by some hate mongerers and cynical global strategists. Here in Minnesota Politics it has no place.
Some Ron Paul followers are suffering from Sour Grapes because the Obama populist movement overwhelmed and over took their 2008 Ron Paul populist movement. These same Ron Paul followers are now demonstrating online that they have always been a sort of passive aggressive Democrat who share with other Dems the anti-war portion but are fiscally conservative themselves and therefore have it in their minds they should dillute the GOP's Homeland Security principles.
An example of self contradiction may be seen in fiscally conservative people who defend light rail. They simply fail to realize University Avenue is an asset with a replacement cost which (if we do nothing further on Central Corridor) costs relatively nothing to preserve but which will be destroyed and lost as a street and an evacuation route if Central Corridor goes through. Traffic Calming is the euphemism used to describe the loss of the popular 4 lane avenue.

I dispute with Paul supporters that their identity will be the next potential populist movement. The next potential populist movement will be the MNGOP or possibly some other smaller movement if the Paul supporters decide once again they don't like the MNGOP and adopt a new third party to surround Ron Paul. The sooner they come on board fully committed to the MNGOP the better.
Some 2008 Minnesota Ron Paul Republicans that attended our convention have proven to have had a re-enforcing effect on anti-war sentiments in the GOP and have been unreliable voters, with Marianne Stebbins admitting to me at Trocadero's that her Ron Paul supporters "probably" voted neither Republican or Democrat - constitutional party is the vote she mentioned as being the probable majority when asked what percentage of Paul Republican supporters actually voted for McCain. This contradicts the assumption upon which was based the national Republicans welcoming Ron Paul in the presidential primary and providing a forum to his supporters in the 2008 cauci and convention.

"Last Saturday, we were at McDonald's and he paid with his 'credit card.' The man behind us complained that letting the baby pay for his own meal was taking too long. The cashier asked why we let Zane pay. I explained that we were trying to teach him how to manage his money. The cashier said 'I wish my parents had done that for me.'

The man behind them was probably Bernanke!

St. Paul Republicans Debate Philosophy, Strategy, Role and Next Occupant of GOP State Chair and Deputy Chair

O'Gara's March 11 2009 Wednesday. A http://www.stpaulrepublicans.org/ event!
MN GOP Deputy Chair candidate Michael Brodkorb of http://www.minnesotademocratsexposed.com/ and http://brodkorbfordeputychair.com/general/from-checks-balances-gop-fight-for-deputy-chair-a-contest-between-the-pitbull-and-the-cheerleader-180/,
and Dorothy Fleming of http://www.deputydot.com/ and http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=42585461653, the current GOP Deputy Chair, debate about what the role of GOP Deputy Chair should be and who is best qualified.

Present was Rory Koch, outgoing CD4 Chair. Rory, with 65B Chair Lori Windels, helped me navigate the system in my 2008 effort to gain Republican endorsement against the House Rep in 65B, Mariani. My Republican primary opponent, Lisa Murphy (with Dorothy Fleming as her biggest advocate) prevailed in that effort, but lost to incumbent senior Democrat Mariani in the general election for the second time. Also present was John McCallum and Kathie Roberts, CD4 Chair and Deputy Chair hopefuls.

Sue Jeffers, Pawlenty spokesman Brian McClung, and many others were also present.
Dorothy attacked the Carey machine for suppressing Ron Paul supporters at the convention. Michael promptly turned back that argument to "highlight the difference between Dorothy and I". Michael supported speech rights of Ron Paul supporters on his blog http://www.minnesotademocratsexposed.com/2008/05/30/narn-%e2%80%9cthe-final-word%e2%80%9d-tonight-from-5-7-pm/ and his former radio show at NARN (http://www.am1280thepatriot.com/). Michael would have used his position as Deputy Chair at the MN State GOP Rochester convention to speak out against the suppression.

I am skeptical a majority of Ron Paul supporters voted Republican. If Ron Paul supporters had all voted for McCain, McCain would have won the state. Marianne Stebbins, a Ron Paul organizer, at an America's Future Foundation Speaker Series event at Trocadero's the next day, refused to offer an estimated percentage of Ron Paul supporters' voting, but suggested most voted for neither Republican or Democrat candidates. Yet Ron Paul supporters showed up in droves at the local Republican caucii in 2008, claiming to be party members.

As expected, Dorothy highlighted her ubiquitous presence throughout Minnesota to demonstrate her work ethic and preference to be in touch with a variety of real people rather than "in a room", guessing about what the prevailing concerns of Minnesotans are from a computer.

Michael said 2010 redistricting would be part of the GOP strategy for which his past redistricting work would serve him well. Michael would refuse the salary, unlike Dorothy. He would define the roles of the Deputy Chair based on discussion among Republicans about how best to define the roles. He is eager to have that conversation.
Michael's job as GOP Senate Communications Director is not a conflict of interest with MN GOP Deputy Chair. If he were Communications Director for the Senate as a whole then it might be.

Among the questions was "Does the party need a cheerleader or Pit Bull. "
Michael went through the litany of DFL victims - Entenza, Hatch, Franken, and the Ritchie list scandal -all people or efforts defeated partly because of exposure on Michael's blog - to demonstrate his bona fides in this respect.
A lone table of Mark Olson supporters shouted out "yeah - like Mark Olson" when Michael said he supports Republicans.

Dorothy felt what she wanted to do could only be done as Deputy Chair (she has no other current job). She said Michael either wouldn't devote all his time or could do what he's currently doing without being Deputy Chair. Many including me found the unfair pidgeon-hole tactic unpleasant.

Tony Sutton gave a wonderful speech and we all got to know the man well. He will not take a paycheck if elected.
He defended his partner Bill Cooper's membership in some Republican donor society as not a conflict of interest.
He will take the best lessons of the 1997 GOP under Bill Cooper (CEO of TCF and one of Scott's clients (http://www.powerlineblog.com/)) and improve the party.
He will target the $100-$5000 donors to increase party revenue $1.5 M.
He will get rid of the notion that constant phone calls and messages will win elections. Persistent GOTV phone calls will be replaced by door-to-door appeals. He will increase strategic direct mailings and other tactics that got dropped somehow. Scott Walker of the St. Paul Republicans asked excellent questions as they waited for Isaac Erickson, the MC, to screen questions. Tony feels in his heart he can make a difference and was convincing. Tony was an assistant state auditor under Pat Anderson. The best take-away was we should be proud to be Republicans. We should proudly advocate for reduced government involvement and reduced government spending, even if curtailing spending sometimes means denying government jobs, subsidized private sector jobs, liberal progress and seemingly thrift itself, in the short run, if they are irresponsibly (i.e. craftily) set up. A healthy capitalist government in the long run is important to maintain and pass on to our children.

This event demonstrates the quality and level of debate that occurs among Republicans and their willingness to talk things out at the party level locally through different candidates.

It is very exciting to be a part of and I hope you will join us at future events.

3/26/09 Update - Lori was not both 65A and 65B Chair, she was only 65B Chair. I corrected the text above. And tonight at party HQ on 525 Park St., through the 65B constitutional election process, she handed the 65B leadership over to John Gilmore, a local attorney fighting the party for the right to use his self-compiled list of Republican officers and activists for social party building. Rick Karschnia was elected Deputy Chair, Pat Igo Treasurer, Mary Igo Secretary, Brian Beitzel 1st Vice Chair, and Jamie Delton (me) 2nd Vice-Chair of 65B. More info shortly. Thank you Lori for all your service to 65B. You deserve the 65B Award certificate John McCallum presented to you! You are a great grassroots activist and party officer. Your persistence in achieving the ratification of our present constitution is much appreciated.

Dump Chas Freeman as candidate for NIS head.

The central fallacy behind this thinking is that al-Qaeda is some kind of liberation movement. It’s not, and neither is Hamas or Hezbollah. These are terrorist organizations

Period.

http://www.thenation.com/blogs/dreyfuss/411714/chas_freeman_for_nic_lots_at_stake

Freeman is slated to become chairman of the National Intelligence Council (NIC), the arm of Admiral Dennis Blair's Office of the Director of National Intelligence. The NIC is the body that includes a host of analysts called national intelligence officers who are responsible for culling intel from sixteen US agencies and compiling them into so-called National Intelligence Estimates.

Rush Limbaugh defacto leader of the GOP. Michael Steele is de jure leader.

Rush is the defacto leader of the GOP. Steele is the de jure leader.
http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2009/03/022959.php
The White House's attack on Rush, on the ground that he "wants President Obama's economic agenda to fail," is stupid even by White House Press Secretary standards. What we conservatives want is for America's economy to succeed. That's why we oppose President Obama's economic policies; we think they are poorly conceived and will damage the economy. Thus, for the sake of America's success, we hope that Obama will fail to implement his misguided policies. How tough was that to follow?
...
ONE LAST THING: It's not as though defending Rush is hard, or anything--not as though he were a hatemonger like Randi Rhodes or Al Franken. But, hey, the Dems didn't just defend Franken, who was not only mean-spirited but profoundly boring as a radio host, they nominated him to the United States Senate. So now, we can't stand up for an obviously good guy like Rush Limbaugh?
http://blogs.abcnews.com/thenote/2009/03/limbaugh-goes-t.html
De jure
From Wikipedia
Not to be confused with soupe du jour.De jure (in Classical Latin de iure) is an expression that means "of law", as contrasted with de facto, which means "in fact".
The terms de jure and de facto are used instead of "in principle" and "in practice", respectively, when one is describing political or legal situations.
In a legal context, de jure is also translated as "by law". A practice may exist de facto, where for example the people obey a contract as though there were a law enforcing it yet there is no such law. A process known as "desuetude" may allow de facto practices to replace obsolete laws. On the other hand, practices may exist de jure and not be obeyed or observed by the people.
